Apple Notes is a killer app, and the rumored iOS 27 upgrade makes me want to know more

Apple Notes has long been one of my most used apps, and iOS 27 would add a powerful new feature that I know will quickly become a must-have feature for me.

iOS 27’s new Siri should have special Notes integration

I’m a heavy user of Apple Notes, currently having nearly 2,700 notes in iCloud. So every time Apple adds new features to the Notes app, I’m especially intrigued.

iOS 26 offered some modest updates to Notes, like the Smart Adaptive Toolbar and Markdown import and export. My favorite change is probably just the Liquid Glass UI.

But iOS 27 is rumored to deliver a much bigger upgrade thanks to new Siri and special integration with the Notes app.

All signs point to iOS 27 bringing the Siri we’ve all been waiting for. It will not only introduce the promised features of iOS 18 that have been delayed, but also a complete modernization for the AI era.

Siri will be a full-featured chatbot like ChatGPT, with a dedicated app and world-knowledge expertise. Its LLM foundation, based on a variant of Google Gemini, will allow Siri to offer the convenience and intelligence of competitors like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.

But Siri would also offer a special benefit to Apple Notes users, and I’m very excited about that.

Adding Siri intelligence to Apple Notes with a single command

One of my most anticipated iOS 27 features was first reported earlier this year. By The information:

Siri will also be able to handle other types of tasks, such as creating a Notes document with a cooking recipe or information on the main causes of drug addiction, for example.

I use Apple Notes as a catch-all for information I want to reference later. And Siri’s ability to add information directly into Notes is something I know I’ll use often.

Today I get AI responses from ChatGPT and Gemini all the time that I want to save in Notes for later.

The process is complicated, because I have to manually select and copy the relevant information, then switch to the Notes app, find where I want to save it, and paste it. Formatting is also often an issue, especially bullet points.

With iOS 27, it looks like Siri will be able to streamline this entire process. What is currently a multi-step problem should become as simple as saying, “Add this to a new note.” Or: “Add this to my XYZ rating.”

Siri’s “Add to Note” functionality, combined with Assistant’s new LLM intelligence, should make iOS 27 a significant upgrade for Notes users.
