Canceled Apple TV show could have enjoyed a revival as spin-off gains acclaim

The musical comedy Schmigadoon on Apple TV! gained a loyal following, but was canceled after two seasons. But now, a Broadway spinoff has proven to be a success and has been widely acclaimed, as evidenced by today’s Tony nominations. And that could be good news for a prospective season 3 of Schmigadoon! on Apple TV.

Schmigadoon! stage show is the most Tony-nominated new musical, sparking new hope for the Apple TV revival

Today, the Tony Awards announced the nominees for the year’s biggest Broadway awards. And Schmigadoon! earned 12 nominations, including Best Musical.

These 12 nominations lead all other series except The Lost Boys which also received 12 nominations.

This is the latest proof of Schmigadoon’s success! Beyond the canceled Apple TV series.

And it gives new hope that Apple may choose to revive the series.

Cinco Paul, creator of Schmigadoon on Apple TV! show and also the stage spin-off, previously shared in season 3 of Schmigadoon! has already been written. From a post on when Apple canceled the series in 2024:

I’m sad to announce that Apple will not move forward with season 3 of Schmigadoon! The season is written (including 25 new songs), but unfortunately we will not produce it. (…)

Paul then alluded to Weekly Entertainment last year that the show could be revived at some point:

There have been some discussions about this. Most of the movement is in my heart, but I don’t give up. I’m really proud of the work we all did in the writers’ room and I think the fans would really love it. Rest assured that I haven’t given up and there are other fans of the show who would also like to see this happen. You never know; life is long.

If Schmigadoon! continues to enjoy success on Broadway, and even won Best Musical at this year’s Tony Awards, Apple would have more reason than ever to bring the series back.

This may be largely wishful thinking at this point, but I know I’m rooting for the success of the Broadway show because I would love to see Season 3 of Schmigadoon! A day.
