Today Bloomberg reported that the Camera app in iOS 27 is getting a new “Siri” mode that offers visual intelligence capabilities. This follows a report yesterday about new Photos tools for AI image edits.

At the end of today’s report, there’s a related explanation of how these new features will complement the camera hardware upgrades coming to the iPhone 18 Pro.

Mark Gurman writes to Bloomberg:

The changes come ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro this fall, which will include some of the biggest camera hardware upgrades in the line’s history.

This is the last line of Gurman’s report, and he doesn’t share any specific details.

Previous reports have indicated that the iPhone 18 Pro’s main camera will get a new variable aperture feature. This could allow users to adjust focus and depth of field like never before.

Another rumor says that the telephoto lens will also have a wider aperture this year.

But those changes aside, we’ve heard little about the new camera features in the works.

While implementation details may make these upgrades larger than we currently anticipate, they still don’t represent “some of the biggest camera hardware upgrades in the line’s history.”

I suspect Gurman will release a new report soon offering additional details. But for now, it looks like the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera system could bring some surprises that we haven’t heard about yet.
