The new iPads will launch later this year, here’s what rumors say is coming

We’re heading into a summer of software unveilings, but Apple has announced more than 15 new hardware products launching later this year, including several iPads. Here’s the latest on the new iPads to look forward to.

#1: iPad mini with OLED screen

The iPad mini may not be the most popular model, but it has its enthusiastic fans. And later this year, the launch of a new iPad mini is rumored to bring at least one big change.

Reports from multiple sources including Bloombergsaid that the next iPad mini will benefit from an OLED screen.

The current iPad mini’s LCD screen has been one of the only major complaints about the product. This is partly due to a “jelly scrolling” issue that was somewhat addressed in the latest model, but hasn’t completely gone away.

Upgrading to OLED should eliminate any lingering doubts about the display, especially if it resembles the iPad Pro’s OLED tandem.

We also expect an improved chip in the new iPad mini. The current mini has an A17 Pro chip, so it already supports Apple Intelligence. The new model could receive an A19 chip and improved water resistance would also be mentioned.

#2: Base model iPad with new chip for AI features

Alongside the new iPad mini, Apple is rumored to have another iPad coming this year: an upgraded base model.

Rumors had pointed to a March launch for the latest basic iPad, but Apple only launched a new iPad Air, with no further updates for the iPad.

Bloomberg Mark Gurman still expects the next basic iPad to launch this year. But the timing remains unclear.

At its launch, the new iPad would have been equipped with an A18 chip, which would notably bring Apple Intelligence to the basic iPad for the first time.

Current iPad users may or may not find much use in Apple Intelligence, but with iOS and iPadOS 27 set to be centered around exciting AI upgrades, that’s likely to change.

Beyond the new chip, we expect most other features of the new iPad to remain the same.

And if you’re hoping for a new iPad Pro, the current M5 model isn’t expected to receive an update until 2027.

Are you waiting for a new iPad before upgrading? What new features are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
