Apple just released a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 3

Apple has just released a brand new firmware for AirPods Pro 3 users. Here are the details.

The new AirPods Pro 3 firmware is now rolling out

Today, Apple launched new AirPods firmware, the first notable update since releasing version 8B39 last month.

Today the latest AirPods Pro 3 firmware is built 8B40. It comes ahead of the launch of iOS 26.5 in the coming weeks.

Apple has a web page with release notes for AirPods firmware updates, but the site has not yet been updated for 8B40.

Currently, the firmware is only available for the AirPods Pro 3, but it’s possible that it will also roll out soon for the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4. For reference, all three models received update 8B39 last month.

Most AirPods firmware updates simply include “bug fixes and other improvements” according to Apple’s release notes, so that’s probably the case today as well.

But after Apple releases official notes, we’ll let you know if there’s anything more substantial in the update.

There is currently no way to manually trigger the AirPods firmware installation. However, you can follow Apple’s instructions regarding the requirements for downloading and installing the firmware.

Are your AirPods running the new 8B40 firmware update? Have you noticed anything different? Let us know in the comments.
