Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we feature the latest apps from the indie app world. If you are a developer and would like your app to be featured, contact us.
Everyone probably has a huge photo library dating back several years, maybe even over a decade. Over time, this consumes more and more storage – and that becomes a problem, especially if you pay for iCloud storage. On the other hand, decluttering isn’t easy.
This Day makes decluttering photos a habit, designing an interface that lets you tackle it one day at a time.
Highlights
Instead of showing you tens of thousands of photos at once, This Day takes a more focused approach and only shows you photos you took today, but years ago. So instead of having to take a holistic approach to decluttering your photo library, you just need to think about today’s date and previous years. Then, over time and if you continue to log into the app, you will progress.
Of course, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution – but I like this approach because it takes the mental burden off and it only becomes a process of a few minutes each day.
This Day will show you all your photos taken on this day in previous years for easy deletion, but it also has Live Photo compression (that is, turning your Live Photos into a single image to reduce file size) and duplication detection – giving you more than one way to save your precious storage.
You can also set daily reminders and maintain a streak to stay motivated. Overall, I find it to be an intuitive way to manage old photos without feeling overwhelmed.
