HomePod Mini 2: all the new features

Apple introduced the HomePod mini 2 this week, and we’ve rounded up all the new features and changes we’ve discovered so far below.

The HomePod mini 2 can be pre-ordered now and launches Friday, October 30, but Siri AI support won’t be available until a future software update.

Here are the new features of HomePod mini 2:

• Support for Siri AI will arrive in a future software update, with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad required for requests involving your personal context.
• S10 chip, up from the previous model’s S5 chip. It’s unclear whether this chip upgrade enables computer audio improvements.
• Support for Wi-Fi 6E, up from Wi-Fi 4 for the previous model.
• Support for Bluetooth 6, up from Bluetooth 5 for the previous model.
• Support for audio output by default on Macs with Wi-Fi 6E and later.
• Sound Glow: The top area glows and vibrates in sync with the music being played.
• Quad-speaker surround sound with new Apple TV 4K: Connect four HomePod mini 2 speakers in front and rear pairs.
• Three microphones for Siri, compared to four in the previous model.
• Two all-new color options: green and pink.
• Although it’s the smallest of the differences, the HomePod mini 2’s listed weight is 3% less than the previous model.
• A price increase. In the United States, the HomePod mini 2 costs $149. The previous model initially cost $99, then $129.
