How to Disable or Restrict Apple Intelligence Features on Your iPhone
You have a lot of control over the AI ββon your iPhone.
As Apple brings more AI to the iPhone, this technology becomes increasingly difficult to avoid. While there’s no longer a single switch to turn off Apple Intelligence system-wide, you can still turn off many AI features in iOS 27. You just need to dig a little deeper.
These instructions are for Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones (iPhone 15 Pro or newer or iPhone 16 or newer) running iOS 27. If you’re still using iOS 26, the simpler universal off switch is still there: open Settings > Apple Intelligence and Siriand turn off Apple Intelligence.
Turn off Siri AI or downgrade
iOS 27 brought the long-awaited AI overhaul to Siri, transforming it from a simple voice assistant to a more conversational and contextual assistant. But not everyone wants a chatbot-style Siri. To turn it off, open Settings > Siriscroll down, tap Turn off Siri and confirm on the next screen.
After that, you can go back to the old Siri if you want. In this same settings screen, tap Activate Sirithen choose Use Siri Classic. This way, you can still use it for simple tasks like setting timers and listening to music.
Disable AI summaries
Apple Intelligence isn’t just about Siri. Among other skills, it can summarize messages and other notifications. But you can also deactivate them.
For AI-generated message summaries, open Settings > Apps > Messagesand turn off Summarize messages. This disables AI-generated message summaries in the conversation list. For the email equivalent, go to Settings > Applications > Mailand turn off Summarize message previews. This turns off AI summaries in your inbox, instead showing the first few lines of the most recent message.
Apple Intelligence summarizes notifications, an embarrassing mistake in the past. To disable them, go to Settings > Notifications > Summarize notificationsand deactivate the function. Or, if you prefer to leave it enabled for certain apps, you can enable them individually on this same screen.
You can also prevent Apple Intelligence from placing the notifications it considers most important at the top of the stack. To do this, open Settings > Notifications > Prioritize notificationsand disable the feature.
Disable other AI-based suggestions
iOS supports Smart Reply, which can write AI-powered email replies in your writing style. To deactivate it, go to Settings > Applications > Mailand turn off Personalize Smart Replies.
Even the Phone app is not spared from Apple Intelligence. It can suggest actions for voice messages, like creating a reminder or calendar event based on the transcription. To disable this, go to Settings > Applications > Phoneand turn off Voicemail suggestions. Apple Intelligence can also display relevant information, like a reservation number, when you call businesses. To stop this, go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Apple Intelligence and Siriand turn off Show on call.
Apple Intelligence even appears in the Journal app, where it can suggest what to write. To disable this, go to Settings > Applications > Logand turn off Get Writing Prompts.
Block writing tools and image generation
Standard Siri settings don’t include toggles for writing tools and creating images. But don’t worry: you can still block them. Strangely, this toggle is found in the Screen Time settings. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictionsenable restrictions, then tap Siri.
In this menu you can deactivate Writing helpApple’s system-wide rewriting, proofreading, and summarization tools. Simply change the toggle to Do not allow. In the meantime, Creating images blocks tools like Image Playground, Genmoji and Image Wand.
While you’re at it, you can also block Math helpwhich provides help with solving complex math problems in Calculator and Notes. And if you don’t want Apple Intelligence to forward requests to services like ChatGPT, you can block Extension cords here too.
