Samsung launches its first clip-on headphones in South Korea

A global rollout will follow, although we don’t yet know the details.

Samsung is jumping on the clip-on earphone bandwagon. The company unveiled the Galaxy Buds On for its Korean market on Thursday, bringing the style popularized by Bose, Huawei and Shokz to the Galaxy ecosystem. Those of us who live elsewhere will have to wait.

If you’re unfamiliar, the clip-on style is designed to clip onto the side of your ear, leaving the canal open. While this may be a benefit for those who don’t like the feeling of something stuck in their ears, the design is also prone to sound leakage. Samsung solves this problem with a TwinBoost speaker system that it says boosts bass, as well as automatic volume adjustment that responds to your surroundings.

In a bid to improve comfort, Samsung claims to have given the earbuds a wide contact area to distribute pressure evenly across the band. Touch controls are found on the back of each earbud, and a voice isolation feature is designed to improve call clarity. 9to5Google notes that the Buds On case looks almost identical, at least externally, to the one that comes with the Galaxy Buds 4.

Owners of compatible Galaxy devices enjoy a few additional benefits. These include hands-free features like head gestures for call control, support for Gemini Live, and a quick voice memo feature that activates with a long press on the touch area.

The Galaxy Buds On will launch in a single black color option in South Korea on October 27. They will cost 299,000 won, which is equivalent to $220. Samsung says a global rollout will follow, but it has yet to announce specific regions, dates, or pricing.
