iPhone 18 Pro aperture control becomes fully manual in Halide 3.2
The award-winning Halide Mark III camera app has been updated to version 3.2, bringing dedicated support to the iPhone 18 Pro by expanding user control over the device’s new variable aperture camera system.
Apple’s Camera app lets iPhone 18 Pro owners choose from a four-speed variable aperture ranging from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0, delivering approximately 50% better low-light performance and giving users greater optical control over depth of field.
Halide 3.2 removes this four-value limitation and instead allows you to select any ƒ value setting throughout the camera’s range.
There are two styles of aperture control in the app. The first is Aperture Priority mode, in which you can set the ƒ-stop and the app manages the shutter speed and ISO to correctly expose the photo.
The other style is manual mode, which gives users full control over all three settings. This includes ISO settings – something Apple’s Camera app doesn’t offer manual control over. Halide said he also plans to add f-stop presets in future updates, based on user feedback.
Elsewhere in This However, Halide 3.2 adds two new film simulations or photographic looks: Dawn and Quicksilver. Dawn features “a filmic warmth in the midtones and highlights, paired with rich yet soft shadows and subtle complementary cool colors.”
Quicksilver is described as a “high-contrast, muted color” that simulates an “alternative silver retention process.” Halide’s developers call it “a great midpoint between color and black and white.”
Finally, version 3.2 introduces a new 16:9 format shooting mode for those who want to use a wider frame.
Halide 3.2 is available for download from the App Store and costs $69.99 as a one-time purchase, or $19.99 for an annual subscription.
