While Apple lags behind in developing its new Siri, Google continues to explore new ways to make Gemini useful on Android. And, soon, the Google Assistant will no longer only be able to perform actions for the user on their smartphone, but will also be able to anticipate a need before the user even thinks about it. Indeed, by digging into a version of the Google application for Android, our colleagues at Android Authority found interfaces corresponding to a new Gemini feature called “Proactive Assistance”.
And, as its name suggests, this new feature, which is not yet available, would be able to anticipate needs and suggest actions on the smartphone, at the right time. To provide this proactive assistance, Gemini would rely on information displayed on the screen, notifications, as well as information available in the applications that the AI is authorized to consult. Unfortunately, we do not have an example or demonstration at the moment. But it is possible, for example, that while you are reading a message, this proactive assistance reads the content of the message and suggests carrying out the action requested in the message. But, for the moment, this is only a hypothesis.
Here’s your first look at Google’s upcoming ‘Proactive Assistance’ feature for Gemini
The new feature will make Gemini better at anticipating your needs and provide help even before you ask for it.

Otherwise, in terms of confidentiality, the interface revealed by Android Authority reveals that, when proactive assistance is authorized to consult the data of an app, this would be processed by a local AI, in an encrypted space on the smartphone.
One of the big news for this month of May?
For now, as the functionality is not official, caution remains in order. However, it is possible that “Proactive Assistance” will be one of the new features that Google will present this month of May. As a reminder, the Mountain View firm will present its latest software developments at the Google I/O conference on May 19 and 20. And it is also possible that before the start of this annual conference, Google will organize another event dedicated to the Android ecosystem.
Otherwise, the new features that Google will announce for Android and Gemini could also give us an overview of the features that Apple will offer on the new Siri. Indeed, the Cupertino company ended up partnering with Google to develop this new feature, which allows it to rely on Google’s cloud and Gemini models. Normally, the new version of Siri should be presented at the WWDC conference in June.
