Both features aim to charge in a very short window and will increase the average charging temperature. Although fast charging may seem bad for your battery due to the extra heat, the damage is considered minimal. This is because your phone and the charger’s smart chip can regulate charging to safe levels. Long-term studies of fast charging suggest a difference in impact of only about 1% or less on battery capacity.
So, does extreme charging on the Google Pixel 11 behave the same way? Google says that in extreme charging mode, “the phone automatically handles any temperature changes and keeps your battery within the normal range.” However, in theory this could cause harm, but this would require rigorous, long-term and extensive testing to support any conclusions satisfactorily.
