The iPhone Air and iPhone 18 Pro are just $100 apart from Apple’s current prices, but they offer different benefits. The Air packs a 6.5-inch screen into an exceptionally thin and light body. The new Pro adds a more versatile camera system, longer battery life, and faster performance.
The iPhone Air launched in 2025 at $999, but Apple now sells the 256GB model for $1,099. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for the same storage capacity, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Our guide helps answer the question of how to decide which of these iPhones is best for you.

At Apple’s current prices, the iPhone 18 Pro is clearly the better choice for most buyers. It costs just $100 more than the Air for each shared storage capacity, but adds excellent ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, a variable aperture main camera, longer battery life, stereo speakers, faster charging, vapor chamber cooling, a newer chip, and more.
The iPhone Air is a more solid case in the hand than on a technical sheet. It’s 46 grams lighter than the iPhone 18 Pro, has a slightly larger screen, and doesn’t look like any other iPhone. With its polished titanium frame and frosted glass back, it looks more sleek and premium than the iPhone 18 Pro in many ways. If looks, thinness, and weight determine how much you like using a phone on a daily basis, choosing the Air may be worth it despite the limitations of its camera, speaker, and battery. The Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch screen and even longer battery life, but weighs 84 grams more than the Air.
Retail prices can change this calculation. The Air has received some substantial discounts, including an unlocked 256GB model for $899.99 earlier this year. If you find a new iPhone Air for around $900 while the iPhone 18 Pro remains at $1,199, the savings of around $300 makes the Air much more compelling if you can live with a rear camera and shorter battery life.
Timing also matters. BloombergMark Gurman of expects the next iPhone Air to be due in spring 2027, and an ultra-wide camera has reportedly reached advanced testing. Analyst Jeff Pu expects a smaller Dynamic Island and A20 Pro chip. Furthermore, the leaker “Digital Chat Station” claimed that it would have a 3,500 mAh battery, compared to 3,149 mAh for the current model, while The information reported that it could benefit from vapor chamber cooling. If the Air’s current camera, battery life, or sustained performance give you pause, waiting might solve those problems; a deep discount is more compelling if the current model already meets your needs.
