Apple now links Hidden Histories podcast episodes in Maps for select landmarks in five U.S. cities. As Apple Insider Noticed, some landmarks in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC now display a sign in Maps that links directly to podcasts about their history when you view their information in the app.
When you tap the panel in Maps, you’ll access an interface where you’ll see the rest of the city’s landmarks with linked podcast guides. Those in New York, for example, include talks on Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Broadway Museum, Grand Central Terminal, the Charging Bull, Studio 54 and Tin Pan Alley. The Los Angeles podcasts include episodes on the history of the Hollywood Sign and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while the San Francisco ones include Alcatraz and the Farallon Islands.
Hidden Histories podcasts are live in the Guides section of the Maps app. Like other items under Guides, such as lists of places to visit curated by various publishers, you can tap the + icon and add podcasts to your collection. You can then review and listen to them another day by opening the panel at the bottom of Maps, then consulting the “Your Guides” section.
