The company is expected to unveil its first-ever camera-less glasses.
Two weeks after Apple’s long-awaited iPhone Duo reveal, Meta is next to showcase new technology at Connect 2026. The two-day event will take place September 23-24, during which the tech giant will unveil its “latest advancements in AI technologies, AI glasses, and virtual reality.”
Connect 2025 delivered a slew of smart glasses, including the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta, the sporty Oakley Meta Vanguards, and the Meta Ray-Ban Display, the company’s first-ever pair of AI glasses with a display. Hardware aside, Meta also rolled out several software updates for its Quest headsets and unveiled Meta Horizon Studio, a platform dedicated to creating VR spaces in Horizon Worlds.
While the company’s sunglasses have garnered plenty of negative reviews over the past few months, reports indicate that it is set to turn over a new leaf with a reimagined pair; we’ll talk about it later.
Meta says that “everyone is welcome to join us virtually for Meta Connect” and that the process is simple. You can register to watch the live stream on the Meta website by entering your name, email address, and country. You can also stream Meta Connect 2026 on the Meta for Developers Facebook page. It all starts on September 23 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and September 24 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. Translations will also be available for non-English speakers during the live stream.
What to expect from Meta Connect 2026
The immense backlash against the Meta line of what many have called “evil glasses” has led to serious privacy concerns, subtle software updates and advertising campaigns. These updates include disabling cameras when it detects that the flashing LED has been blocked, whether by a strip of tape or clip-on accessories. It even led Instagram to ban users who posted videos of themselves interacting with others while wearing doctored glasses.
However, a big change is expected for the company’s next set. According to The Information, Meta is expected to launch camera-less smart glasses. Unofficially dubbed Luna, the latest model is said to feature six built-in microphones, which will allow users to speak with Meta’s AI chatbot and Muse, the company’s new personal AI agent that was released to the public earlier this month.
Beyond the smart glasses, we could see the official reveal of the mixed reality headset codenamed “Project Phoenix”, especially since new images of it surfaced earlier this month. This slimmer mixed reality device may not hit shelves this year, but between these recent photos and the company mentioning VR in the event description, it’s still possible the company will unveil it today.
Regardless, the agenda is fully set, starting with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s speech on September 23 at 7 p.m. ET. The State of the Developer Union and Developer Sessions begin at 1 p.m. ET the following day, and these will be available to watch on demand. These aim to spotlight developer advocates, software engineers, designers and product managers of VR, AI and Horizon glasses, showcasing the latest advancements from Meta.
