Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max began arriving to customers on Friday, and unfortunately some early adopters are experiencing Face ID issues.
According to a Reddit post spotted by 9to5MacFace ID authentication for specific actions like unlocking a locked app sometimes doesn’t work on iPhone 18 Pro models, and the device freezes then restarts to the lock screen. It’s unclear how widespread this issue is, but it can be random and not all users are affected.
Furthermore, some Woozad Forum members are experiencing other Face ID issues on iPhone 18 Pro models. First, some are getting a “Face ID is not available” message when trying to set up Face ID, and others have noted that devices don’t always seem to respect the “Require attention for Face ID” setting when enabled.
Apple has moved Face ID’s infrared camera below the upper left corner of the screen on iPhone 18 Pro models to achieve a smaller dynamic island on the devices. It’s unclear if this hardware change is related to these Face ID issues, but it’s likely that Apple will eventually fix any new Face ID bugs in a future iOS 27 update.
