Kaamelott, what happened?
There is over 20 years oldin 2002, Alexandre Astier released his short film Dies Iræ which would become the starting point of a license and a cult universe among French creations: Kaamelott.
Three years later, in 2005, the first episode of Kaamelott is broadcast on M6. French spectators then have the opportunity to discover a rewrite from the mythical legend of King Arthur. We then discovered the Knights of the Round Table quite different prestigious knights who were described in the Raw Novel written by Norman Wace in 1155.
With KaamelottAlexandre Astier shows us basic charactersfar from being heroes, who set out in search of the Grail, without even knowing what it is. Even Merlin, King Arthur’s famous advisor and magician, was not the most skilled and talented of enchanters. With Dies Iræ And KaamelottAlexandre Astier wanted “film a guy who says something important, solemn if possible, and which is not understood by the people in front”.
Kaamelott: a comedy series, but not only that

Logically, Kaamelott is therefore a comedy serieswith very short episodes of only three minutes which are mainly a series of sketches. And, it is clearly with the first four seasons (the Books I has IV) that the general public will know and assimilate the comic genre to Kaamelott.
However, it is from 2007 and season 5 (the Book V) that the series takes a whole different twist. From now on, Kaamelott propose eight episodes of 45 minutes and will abandon humor for a very serious tonehighlighting King Arthur’s Depression. The final season, in 2009, with the Book VIwill continue this descent into hell of the Pandragon King, definitively abandoning humor.
The trilogy to conclude the story

More than 10 years after the last season, Kaamelott and his heroes were back in 2021 with the First Part of a trilogy. Missing, Arthur returned to Armorica to face his former rival, Lancelot du Lac, who seized the throne after his departure. The kingdom of Kaamelott is at its worst.
Lancelot du Lac and his staff made up of King Loth, Dagonet, Father Blaise and the Jurisconsult sows terror. The kingdom’s coffers are empty and chaos sets in. In an attempt to save the day, Lancelot makes a deal with Horsa and Wulfstan, the leaders of the Saxon mercenaries. Following this agreement, the sacred land of Logres is divided. Which has the effect of provoking the anger of the Gods. This is when Arthur returns, to try to reclaim his throne.

After six seasons of KaamelottAlexander Asiter announced that the end of the story of Arthur and his knights would be done through several films. A trilogy is announced with a a little special cutting :
Kaamelott timeline:
- Dies Iræ – Prequel (2002)
- Kaamelott, Book I – Season 1 (2005)
- Kaamelott, Book II – Season 2 (2005)
- Kaamelott, Book III – Season 3 (2006)
- Kaamelott, Book IV – Season 4 (2006)
- Kaamelott, Book V – Season 5 (2007)
- Kaamelott, Book VI – Season 6 (2009)
- Kaamelott, First Part – Film 1 (2021)
- Kaamelott, Second Part Part 1 – Film 2 (October 22, 2025)
- Kaamelott, Second Part Part 2 – Film 2 (November 11, 2026)
- Kaamelott, Third Part – Film 3 (NC)
For the moment, we do not yet know if the third part will fit into one film or not. As for the second part, the latter will be cut into two parts. Alexandre Astier explained that this choice was made because the film would have been too long. On the other hand, it is indeed a question of the same story and a plot that continues directly. When both parts are released, it will be perfectly possible to watch them consecutively, one after the other, as a single film.
Do you have to have seen the prequel Dies Iræ and the six Kaamelott books to see KV2?
No. Alexandre Astier explained that the objective of the trilogy is to be able to be seen by people who do not know and who discover Kaamelott. On the other hand, it is highly recommended to discover the universe beforehand to be able to grasp all the references and subtleties.
Do you have to have seen the first film to see KV2?
If the prequel Dies Iræ and the first six seasons of Kaamelott are optional (but highly recommended), on the other hand, it is necessary to have seen the first film to embark on this sequel. Kaamelott: First Part (2021) lays the foundations for the trilogy and puts the whole situation into context. Kaamelott: Second Part (2025/2026) will be a direct sequel to the first film, picking up the plot where it left off. It is therefore quite recommended to have seen this first film.
What will Kaamelott: Second Part be about?
Updated: October 1, 2025
A few hours before the opening of the box office for the previews, Alexandre Astier released the first trailer for KV2 – Part One. As this summer’s teaser suggested, this film will offer us go back on an adventure with a new round table. King Arthur is determined to take back the throne of Kaamelott in a fight that promises to be epic against his former teammate: Lancelot.
To do this, he must summon all his former allies. We therefore find Alexandre Astier and Anne Girouard in the shoes of the royal couple. Jean-Christopher Hembert, Lionnel Astier, Joëlle Sevilla, Jacques Chambon and Nicolas Gabion will return to the roles he already played in the series. It will also be the return of Simon Astier, in his role of Yvain, Knight of the Lion who was absent in the First Part. Unfortunately, the absence of Franck Pitiot (Perceval) seems to be confirmed.
At the moment we do not know not much on the plot of this sequel. In the first film, Arthur Pendragon returns to Armorica and finds misery in which his ancient Kingdom is immersed. He decides to regain his throne and confronts Lancelot du Lac, his former companion and rival. The fight leads nowhere and the film ends with a rather intriguing and disturbing visual of a creature that appears to be under Lancelot’s control. The end of the film makes us understand that a battle is brewing to know who will rule the sacred land of Logres.
We therefore imagine that this sequel will highlight the return of King Arthur, who will prepare resistance with his former brothers in arms. Moreover, in the first teaser which was broadcast on August 14, 2025, we can see Arthur, bringing together many volunteers to “go on an adventure”.
Will all the characters be back in this Second Part?

A large part of the cast was already present in Kaamelott: First Part (2021). Some were missinglike Yvain, the Knight of the Lion (or the orphan of Carmelide), son of Léodagan, Prince of Carmelide and brother-in-law of King Arthur who is played by Simon Astier (the real brother-in-law of Alexandre Astier). Other essential characters, like Gawain, the knight with the Pancreas, were only glimpsed in this first film, causing frustration among many fans.
With these two parts of the Second Part, the whole cast should be back. At least, almost.

Indeed, a major character seems absent: Perceval of WalesKnight of Wales played by Franck Pitiot. This is one of the characters the most emblematic of the saga, overview in 192 episodes (out of 458), which makes him the fourth most important character after Arthur (437 episodes), Léodagan of Carmélide (225 episodes) and Queen Guinevere (202 episodes).
For the moment, we do not know if Alexandre Astier and his teams are playing a trick on us. hiding the presence of the actor (although this remains unlikely). Maybe, for the purposes of the plotPerceval will not be present in KV2 and will return in KV3. To date, Alexandre Astier and Franck Pitiot did not comment on this.
It didn’t take much to start seeing many theories And unfounded rumors tumbling onto the canvas, evoking a tension between Astier and Pitiot on one side, or a lack of interest on the part of Perceval’s actor, not finding the scenario interesting enough to come out of retirement. To date, the only official information is that neither party has spoken out about the situation and that this may totally be part of a creative choice to serve the rest of the story.

During a LIVE interview on Samuel Etienne’s Twitch channel, Alexandre Astier returned to the absence of actor Franck Pitiot in the role of Perceval. The actor, director and composer then confirmed that Franck Pitiot did not wish to reprise his role in this part. Implying that a return in the third part could be possible. Furthermore, Astier confirms that, if actor Franck Pitiot is not present, that does not mean that Perceval will be absent:
“There is no Perceval because Franck Pitiot, who plays him, did not return. He did not want to return to this part. It changed the course of things a little for us. There was some rewriting (…) So be careful, Franck Pitiot is not in the film, Perceval is a little more complicated. I can’t say more, but it’s more complicated than: he’s not there.”
Regarding the rest of the cast, we find all the cult characters and actors from the saga, with new names on the list!
