Google’s latest line of AI-centric laptops could hit the market within weeks.
Google will soon reveal a lot more about the first wave of Googlebooks, its new line of Android-based laptops. The company revealed Monday that it would open pre-orders on September 21 and is now announcing a “celebration” of the devices, which it hasn’t talked about much since May.
He will present the material in New York on October 5 at an event called Opening Night. The evening will include “interactive showcases and the launch of the first laptop designed for Gemini Intelligence,” Google said in an invitation. Google Books could also start shipping around this time – the company will surely want to start selling them before the holiday shopping season.
It seems strange that Google is officially introducing said laptop for the first time weeks after pre-orders began. Maybe we’ll get more details on these devices when Google starts taking people’s money for them next week.
What we do know is that these AI-centric Googlebooks run on an Android-based version of ChromeOS. As a result, they will benefit from deep integration with Android phones. Google’s long-time partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo make Googlebooks with a “light bar” on the lid.
Laptops have a feature called Magic Pointer. When you hover over something on your screen, it will suggest contextual actions you can take. You will first need to activate Magic Pointer by wiggling the slider, so that it is not activated all the time. Google Books is also adopting a feature from Android 17 that lets you generate a custom widget.
