Again, it really depends on what you want to accomplish and the extent to which you give it access to other services. But even if you only connect it to other Meta apps, you can still do a lot of things.
I felt more cautious at first, so I decided to start with a few tasks related to my Facebook and Instagram activity. Like many people, I save a ton of videos and posts on Instagram, but rarely come back to them. Much of this content is recipe videos that I always record with the intention of actually trying, but rarely remember to do so. It seemed like a good job for Muse.
I started by having Boo go through all my Facebook and Instagram saves, extract the recipes, and organize them into something easier to read and search, including ingredient lists and recipe steps. He came back with a curated list of recipes, grouped by type, that shows ingredients, steps, and links to the original post. It’s basically like my own Instagram-powered cookbook. It also allowed me to create a similar, searchable guide using posts I had saved about restaurants I would one day like to discover, organized by city.
Meta talked about travel planning as a major use case for Muse. Turns out I’m planning an international trip later this year, so I asked him to help me start researching details related to a potential itinerary. I gave him some information about the schedule and my preferences (non-stop flights only), he provided me with some flight options from my city, and set up a price tracker to monitor costs. I expect the trip to cover multiple cities and he made some suggestions on how to order the itinerary. He even suggested I consider a multi-city ticket so I could depart from a different airport than the one I would be flying into. None of this is really revealing, but I like that it monitors things like flight prices at regular intervals.
The more you use Muse, the more it will learn about you. And you can always check out the “Ideas” tab, where Muse will list a bunch of things it could help you with. Some of these are generic, like price comparison offers, but others are more specific to your actual interests.
Here again, some caution is necessary. We have many examples of AI agents going somewhat rogue after receiving a seemingly innocuous instruction, like booking an exercise class. Meta says it has several layers of protection in place, but there’s always a chance something could go wrong or your agent might interpret a request in a strange way. So it’s always a good idea to check what he’s actually doing when he claims to be working on your behalf.
