Apple’s former head of hardware engineering, John Ternus, officially became CEO of the company today, with the change now reflected on Apple’s leadership page.
Ternus joined Apple in 2001, became vice president of hardware engineering in 2013, and became senior vice president of hardware engineering in 2021. He is 51, so he could serve as CEO for 10 to 15 years before reaching the typical retirement age.
Tim Cook is now executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors, after 15 years as CEO. In this role, Apple said Cook will “help with aspects of the business, including engaging with policymakers around the world.”
During his final day as CEO on Monday, Cook stopped by the Apple Park Visitor Center in Cupertino, California, to meet with some of Apple’s retail employees at various stores, with photos and video of the visit available on Instagram.
In case you missed it, Cook shared a letter to the Apple community back in April.
