Rockstar Games released a statement on the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, just ahead of an official in-depth look at the game. The publisher — publicly acknowledging for the first time that the clips are legitimate — called the leaked videos “heartbreaking for our team” and indicated they might contain spoilers. He added that “this is obviously not how we intended for you to view the game after all this time.”

The leaker, who promoted a memecoin in the clips, claimed he was protesting alleged anti-consumer practices by video game companies, such as Rockstar’s decision to release the physical edition of GTA6 as code in a box, rather than on a disk. One of the leaked clips notably showed Jason walking through a store selling physical copies of games.
The publisher was reportedly “all hands on deck” to determine how the leaks occurred and who is responsible. Its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, sought information from Microsoft and Discord that it believed was related to the leak. On Monday, Discord CMO Ryan K. Rigney said the company “has not yet received a subpoena” and that once Take-Two does, it will “evaluate the validity and scope before responding.”

While it’s unfortunate that the intended gameplay experience may now be affected by some spoilers, we hope everyone waits a little longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19.
