If you’ve ever dealt with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) while flying in the United States, chances are you’ve had to go through a separate screening for some of your electronic devices. It can certainly be complicated, but ASUS says its new ROG Archer Suitcase 20 can provide a solution for gamers or anyone looking to carry a laptop more easily for traveling. However, it may not be as unique as ASUS makes it out to be.
Announced in a press release, ASUS’ Republic of Gamers (ROG) division revealed a 20-inch carry-on suitcase offering a specially designed front compartment for a 16-inch laptop and other gaming accessories. In addition to the laptop-friendly front compartment, the Archer Suitcase 20 also features a polycarbonate hard-shell design and TSA-compliant locks. The suitcase also features Hinomoto Miraclent 360-degree quiet wheels, which are very popular with some travel enthusiasts.
The company, based in Taiwan and owned by a mix of public market investors, made the announcement at the Gamescom conference in Germany. ASUS hasn’t said how much it will charge for the case itself, nor its launch timeline, but the company has gone to great lengths to tout how the case can also be useful to professionals and creatives, alongside gamers. Laptop compartments can be especially useful because of TSA rules regarding electronics, including the possibility that an agent will ask to turn on your device to prove it is what it claims to be.
ASUS is of course not the only company offering suitcases with laptop compartments. But, as with many things in gaming, the product allows a player to show their enthusiasm.
ASUS ROG Allows Gamers to Travel Compliantly with the Archer Suitcase 20
Built with a size intended for an airplane’s overhead compartment, the Archer Suitcase 20 is the first of its kind from ASUS in its Archer series, which includes a number of bags aimed at meeting the needs of gamers and creators. While ASUS makes sure to point out that users should always check an airline’s policy, the main selling point of this suitcase is that it includes a quick-access front compartment intended for a 16-inch laptop, as well as full-size headsets, assorted cables, and “other essential gaming gear.”
Even though ASUS claims its laptop compartment is unique, finding other cases that offer similar features isn’t too difficult. For example, laptop maker Acer offers one under its gaming brand called Predator Street-Style Carry-On for $350. Like ASUS, Acer’s suitcase has a similar laptop compartment and a 20-inch design. Outside of gaming and tech brands, there’s also the Getaway 20-Inch Handbag: Front-Opening Bag from Bagsmart that also has a similar compartment for $180. BGR has not reviewed these bags and does not specifically recommend them.
Those who are interested should be sure to keep an eye on the price, as this can be a deciding factor when purchasing a new suitcase. Remember which electronic devices you are not allowed to take in your carry-on baggage.
