It’s been almost 25 years since the very first Xbox console hit stores. To commemorate the occasion, Microsoft just revealed a whole bunch of hardware peripherals from several different manufacturers.
Most of these gadgets have one thing in common: they are translucent green, which has become shorthand for referring to the original Xbox console. This is a bit strange, considering the console launched in black with just a green circle in the middle. The translucent stuff came later.
Anyway, there are new models of Razer Basilisk V3 Pro 35K mouse and Razer BlackWidow V4 75% keyboard. These are just reskins, so the hardware remains the same. That’s not a bad thing, considering the Basilisk V3 is on our list of best gaming mice and the BlackWidow V4 75% is a highly rated mechanical keyboard.
Razer is also greening the Hammerhead V3 X Hyperspeed headphones. These are great little headphones for switching between different audio sources on the fly, thanks to the company’s proprietary 2.4GHz HyperSpeed streaming platform.
8BitDo is on board with a green charging dock. It is compatible with Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One controllers. GameSir has redesigned the X5 Lite mobile controller, also in translucent green. It works with iOS and Android devices.
Finally, there are a few gadgets here that, for whatever reason, aren’t green. The Backbone Pro Xbox 25th Anniversary Edition is another mobile gaming controller available in a trio of colorways. Oddly, there’s no way to choose which color. It’s kind of a mystery box situation.
Despite its name, the PowerA Xbox Sling Bag is not a carrying case for Xbox consoles and controllers. Rather, these are the Xbox-branded Ally and Ally X handheld devices. It’s jet colored with minor green accents, making it the only accessory that even remotely resembles a 2001 Xbox.
All items above are available for pre-order now. This can be done through the Xbox store or from current manufacturers.
Of course, that’s not the only move Microsoft has made to celebrate the anniversary of its very first gaming console. There is, you guessed it, a translucent green Xbox Series X console launching in November.
