If you’re hearing a lot of grumbling in coffee shops today, the GitHub outage may be the reason.
People who do more than vibe coding to create apps and websites might be in a bit of a pickle this Monday morning. The GitHub developer platform has been down since approximately 9:40 a.m. ET. The platform’s status page indicates that there are issues on several fronts, including with API requests, pull requests, and webhooks. Copilot is also affected, so those using the platform for AI coding might also encounter issues.
“We are experiencing high error rates of around 20 percent for web experiences and API traffic. Downloads of archives and raw repository content are experiencing an error rate of around 50 percent,” reads an update posted just before 11 a.m. “We are currently carrying out mitigation measures based on our investigation to date and monitoring improvements.”
At 1:34 p.m., GitHub said it had identified “the problematic component” and taken “remedial action.” He said webhooks, API requests and pull requests were back up and running. However, as of 3:05 p.m., there were still issues with Copilot and the GitHub website.
It is not yet known exactly what caused this outage. This is at least the second major outage hitting a Microsoft platform in recent weeks, after many Xbox services were taken offline for several hours late last month.
