One thing you should know about 5G is that while it may be faster than 4G, it also faces specific physical limitations because it relies on high-frequency radio waves. It can therefore transport more data quickly, but it struggles to overcome solid obstacles like brick walls or metal structures. Interestingly, weather conditions, distance from the nearest cell tower, and heavy network congestion during peak hours can also reduce speeds or cause latency spikes. These drops may cause live streams to experience poorer visual clarity or a brief pause to reload.
The real challenge with streaming over 5G isn’t network speed, but how quickly high-definition downloads can eat up cellular data. For example, standard definition streaming uses about one gigabyte per hour; full high definition reaches around three gigabytes per hour; and uncompressed 4K resolution can easily use seven to 10 GB of your plan in just an hour.
Choosing the right operator subscription therefore depends on what you want. Standard options typically advertise unlimited data accompanied by high-speed data caps, which typically vary between 30 and 100 GB per month. Once these limits are exceeded, carriers can slow down your device during peak hours, known as throttling. Tests show that operators slow down video playback at all times, regardless of network congestion. In contrast, 5G service for home use generally provides true unlimited data with no monthly cap. To manage mobile usage, configure streaming apps to limit playback to Full HD instead of 4K, as smaller screens make the visual differences between these technologies quite similar.
