The internet seems to have a knack for falling apart just when you have to answer an important call or meet a work-from-home deadline, or just when the plot twist hits whatever you’re streaming. As inconvenient as it may seem, there’s a good chance that one of the many blinking lights on your router will tell you exactly why your Internet connection is down. Verizon routers are no different from other routers in this regard, thanks to the LED status indicator panel you can find on the front. Each color has its own meaning, making it easy for you to determine why your internet connection is down and what you can do about it.
If your Verizon router is showing a solid yellow light, that’s telling you that no internet connection is available, as you’ve probably already guessed if you look at your router. The router may also sometimes display a blinking yellow light, but this simply indicates that activity is occurring on your network. Regardless, a yellow light does not indicate a hardware or system failure, as these conditions would cause a red light to appear instead.
Since the light most likely indicates a simple lack of connection, you may want to try a few troubleshooting steps before calling Verizon. For example, you can try unplugging your router, waiting a few minutes, then plugging it back in to see if your connection stabilizes again. Alternatively, you can also try restarting the router by holding down the reset button for five seconds (you’ll find this through the router information and ports on the back). What do the other lights mean on a Verizon router?
You may have noticed that yellow isn’t the only color glowing on your Verizon router. The router’s LED status indicators can actually give you insight into an assortment of other connection issues, alongside a few regular functions. Besides yellow, your router’s light panel may also appear white, blue, green, or red, and it may either present a solid color or flash rapidly.
Yellow, red and green are the only colors of concern. If your router is flashing red, slow flashing means a hardware or system failure, while fast flashing indicates overheating, Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) pairing failure, or a system update error. Meanwhile, if the light on your router is green, it means the Wi-Fi has been turned off by you or another user.
Every time your router is turned on, you’ll see one of these lights, but if you’re tired of its brightness, you’ll be happy to know that you can dim it through the router’s user interface:

Open it Utilities menu and select LED brightness from the sidebar.

Adjust the brightness using the sliding scale.

There’s not much to worry about if your router glows white or blue, but it’s good to know what that means. Your router showing a solid white light means it should be working as usual. On the other hand, a blue light indicates that your Wi-Fi is in pairing mode. A slow blink indicates that pairing mode is enabled, while a fast blue blink indicates that the router has paired successfully. However, you probably won’t see your router turn blue often unless you regularly use the WPS button on your router.
