Anthropic today introduced Claude Opus 5, an update to Opus 4.8. Anthropic says the Opus 5 was designed for everyday use and offers near-Fable 5 performance at half the price. Fable 5 is Anthropic’s most successful publicly available model.
The Opus 5 scores higher than the Opus 4.8 on several assessed tasks, including agent coding, novel problem solving, knowledge work, computer use, and multidisciplinary reasoning. This is a “significant improvement” over Opus 4.8 for scientific research, and it may produce better visual results.
Anthropic says the new model “delivers significantly improved performance for the same cost” as the Opus 4.8. The Opus 5 is better at checking its work and iterating until it completes a task. It is close to Myth 5 on detecting cybersecurity vulnerabilities, but it has not been trained in cyber tasks and it remains “significantly behind” Myth 5 on exploitation. Mythos 5 is Fable 5 with some safeguards removed. It is limited to a small number of organizations, primarily cyber defenders and infrastructure providers, due to its ability to find and exploit vulnerabilities.
Opus 5 is available on all platforms. This is the new default model on Claude Max and the most powerful model available on Claude Pro. Its price is $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, which is the same as Opus 4.8. Fast mode is also available, running at 2.5 times the default speed for twice the base price.
