Samsung has gotten a head start on the traditional fall hardware season in recent years by announcing its Galaxy foldable and smartwatch lines every July. The company is sticking with that approach this year with a midsummer reveal of three new phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Samsung also revealed the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 smartwatches.
Phones have a few things in common. For example, all three run on the same chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The base models come with the same memory and storage options: 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. The two variants of the Fold 8 each have a configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage.
The selfie cameras are all 10MP wide-angle lenses. The one on the Flip 8 and those on the covers of the two Fold 8 models are all capable of shooting 4K video at 60 fps. The main selfie cameras on the Fold 8 phones can handle FHD images at 60fps.
For the new phones, Samsung is using the new Flex Titanium technology. According to the company, it’s a titanium-based design that helps keep them thin and durable. While the last generation had a rigid titanium plate behind the entire screen, the new foldables add a layer of titanium alloy beneath the phone’s flexible OLED. Samsung claims that “Flex Titanium helps strengthen screen support, absorb pressure and impact, and reduce the visibility of creases,” while making opening devices smoother and more natural.
For all its design advancements, Samsung’s latest handsets always Does not natively support Qi2 charging. It’s been 18 months since the company started supporting the standard with the “Qi2-ready” Galaxy S25. Still, you’ll need to place one of these new phones in a magnet-compatible case before you can get the most out of a Qi2 charger.
When it comes to wearables, both the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 run on a Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset. Qualcomm unveiled the 3nm processor earlier this year. This is the first Snapdragon chip for wearables to feature a dedicated Hexagon NPU, capable of supporting AI models with two billion parameters.
Pre-orders for all devices begin today. They will hit shelves on August 7.
Besides phones and watches, Samsung offered a new look at smart glasses developed with Google, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. There’s still no pricing or release date for the two models – which are expected to arrive later this year – but Samsung has revealed new models. They really like glasses with a built-in camera! (We tried an earlier version at Google I/O in May.)
The company also provided an update on battery life specifications. It says the glasses will work for up to nine hours on a single charge. The charging case will provide up to seven additional full charges. It’s also worth noting that the devices run on a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset.
Separately, ahead of Samsung Unpacked, the company revealed a credit card offering 5% cash back on select Samsung device purchases. Of course, it’s called the Samsung Galaxy Card.
