Parental monitoring begins rolling out next week.
Social media network Threads is adding new features allowing parents and guardians to monitor their teens’ behavior on the platform. Parental monitoring provides insight into how much time a teen spends in the app, as well as controls to set time limits and sleep mode times. It also allows guardians to place restrictions on the tags a teen can see and impose other limits on privacy and content settings.
The parental monitoring tools are intended to complement other built-in restrictions for all teen accounts on Threads. Adults can access the feature for Threads as it begins rolling out to Meta’s Family Center hub next week.
Meta has been trying to figure out how children can use its products safely long before it was renamed Meta. Recent measures include sharing topics teens discuss with Meta AI with their guardians and restrictions on repeated exposure to potentially harmful content on Instagram.
