Some T-Mobile customers with older phone plans are automatically upgraded to newer T-Mobile plans, reports CNET. The company sent notifications to customers on old plans, letting them know they were being moved to a current plan.
Customers pushed to a new plan could benefit from an automatic increase in their bill. The operator plans to move its customers to comparable modern packages. T-Mobile options include Essentials, Essentials Saver, Experience More, and Experience Beyond. Prices for a single line start at $50 per month.
Allan Samson, T-Mobile’s marketing manager, said the majority of customers getting an automatic upgrade will pay below the sold price of the plan and won’t be priced the same as a plan would cost a new customer. The average increase will be around $4 per line per month, with some prices going up to $6.
Employees were informed that T-Mobile was upgrading customers to modern plans to get rid of more than 1,100 existing billing codes, and were told to expect an increase in customer contact volume in the coming weeks.
T-Mobile declined to say CNET which schemes are decommissioned, but some go back 15 years. The company has implemented numerous projects over the past decade and a half, and Sprint users on older plans were brought into T-Mobile after the 2020 merger.
Thousands of customers are affected and will receive alerts from T-Mobile. Plans will change during the next billing cycle. Customers unhappy with T-Mobile’s decision can choose another T-Mobile plan or switch carriers.
