The company announced that it will soon begin large-scale production of its autonomous vehicle.
Zoox, the autonomous startup acquired by Amazon in 2020, presented the new version of its autonomous vehicle which, according to it, was designed for large-scale production. Although it still resembles the older version introduced by the company in 2020, the new vehicle has modifications that improve its comfort for drivers and make it easier to interact with.
The company moved the vehicle’s bidirectional reflectors for better visibility and made them alternate colors to better distinguish front from rear, given that the robotaxi has a square form factor. It also equipped the door speaker and microphone with two-way audio capabilities to enable communication between drivers and road users, as well as between first responders and Zoox assistance.
Inside, the new vehicle features a lighter color scheme with monochrome aloe green seats and stone gray flooring. Zoox also added padding and ergonomic curves to the bench seats and their headrests, based on feedback from its first riders. He made the vehicle’s touchscreen more lively and also installed larger cup holders. The company hasn’t made any major changes to the layout, however: inside, it still looks like a single-car tram, with four passengers facing each other.
Zoox launched its autonomous robotaxi service on the Las Vegas Strip in September 2025 after months of testing. It will add the updated robotaxis to its fleet later this year as they roll off the production line. The company will manufacture the new model at its robotaxi factory in Hayward, California. While it did not specify how many units it would add to its fleet, it said it has the capacity to increase production by up to 100 vehicles per week to support its expansions throughout 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
