Now that Android 17 is available for Pixel devices, many are undoubtedly downloading the new update for the exciting new features that this operating system has to offer. For some, this enthusiasm quickly fades as serious bugs continue to present themselves. These bugs range in severity from something as simple as disappearing widgets to more common issues like not being able to use the phone’s eSim, and the hits just keep coming, like Android 17’s touchscreen bugs.
Of course, you can always keep up to date with the latest known bugs for Android on Google Issue Tracker, to see which bugs are fixed and stay informed about fixes as soon as they become available. There are several bugs currently listed in Android 17, including those mentioned above, as well as issues with Android 17’s contacts picker, and more. But if you’re planning to upgrade to Android 17 soon and you own a Pixel 10 or other Google device, here are some of the most glaring bugs you need to be aware of.
Wi-Fi issues in some apps
One particularly annoying bug that has been plaguing Pixel phone owners since the release of the first Android 17 betas is a bug that actually causes Wi-Fi issues on some Pixel devices when trying to use certain apps. Users have complained that this affects Google apps the most, although some have also mentioned connectivity issues with TikTok. The exact cause of the issues is still unclear, although some users believe it has something to do with enabling IPv6 support on your router.
This is, however, unconfirmed and attempts to fix the issue with this particular feature have also not been completely successful. Others have reported trying to factory reset their device, although that doesn’t always seem to fix the problem either. If you encounter this issue, you can add your report to those on Reddit or submit a report directly to the Google Issue Tracker to make sure Google sees it and fixes it. Obviously, not having Wi-Fi even if you’re connected to it is a big problem, especially with some smartphone data plans offering a limited amount of data each month.
eSim not working
Another issue that seems to be causing problems for some Pixel owners who upgraded to Android 17 is the issue with the eSIM not being recognized after flashing the new Android OS. A user posted on Reddit claimed that he discovered that his device’s eSIM had been disabled and that every time he tried to reactivate it, he received an error message. They also reported that when they restarted their phone, the eSIM was on, but then it disappeared and turned off about 30 seconds later.
Since new Pixel phones in the US market only work with eSim, this is particularly frustrating. Users who experienced this issue with eSim claim that the physical SIM still seems to work as expected and even when upgrading to a previous version of Android, their eSIM still stopped working. This particular issue was reported in Android 17 at least as early as April 2026, and one user even theorizes that the issue could be related to firmware corruption in some way during the flashing process. While some users have reported this issue, others claim to have had no issues, leading some to suggest that the bug could be related to installing Android 17 via the Flash tool, versus the over-the-air update.
Drop in GPU performance
Many times new Android updates bring improved performance, but it seems that Android 17 may have had the opposite effect for some Pixel device owners. A Reddit user says that after downloading the Android 17 update to his Pixel 10 Pro, he started experiencing very poor performance on games that he had previously run smoothly on his phone. The user states that they have tested several different titles and that these games and applications continue to stutter and suffer from poor performance even days after installing the update.
Other users also chimed in in the comments, noting that they had also seen similar issues. Google Pixel phones are not known for offering the best performance on the market (this is one of the downsides of Pixel phones). However, they are generally considered powerful enough to handle most of your daily tasks and some games. As such, several users seem frustrated by this unexpected change in performance after the update. Hopefully an upcoming Android 17 update will help fix anything that could be making the Tensor chip in some Pixel devices slower than before.
Widgets disappear completely
Another major issue reported by users on Google’s issue tracker is that their widgets were removed after updating to Android 17. Widgets are one of the easiest ways to personalize your phone, and this update introduced a new AI-powered Create My Widget feature – Google lets you use natural language to generate your own custom widgets via flavor coding. However, the hype around this feature is offset by the fact that many users seem unable to use existing widgets with the bug, noting that they are gone.
Some users of the official Issue Tracker have even noted that the limited widgets that appear can sometimes disappear after restarting the device. Fortunately, this is an issue that Google is aware of, and the company even told BGR in an email that it’s working to fix it in a future Android update. For now, however, users will have to try to work around the issue as best they can, as some Redditors have noted success when changing certain settings in their phone’s work profile.
