In macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple made significant updates to iPhone Mirroring in addition to a new app icon. Here are the new features.
macOS 27 is currently in developer beta, with a public beta coming next month and a general release expected in the fall.
Resizing the window
In macOS Tahoe, iPhone mirroring is limited to the iPhone’s native aspect ratio, so window resizing is limited to the device’s fixed aspect ratio. Smaller, Full Size, and Larger are the only options. On the other hand, macOS 27 introduces support for multiple image formats. Depending on the aspect ratio chosen, iPhone Mirroring displays either a modified iPhone interface or the available iPad layout of an app. The tweaks are limited to iOS 27 compatible apps for now, but expect that to change as developers update their own apps. This change also fueled speculation about a foldable iPhone arriving in September.
Access to the control center
In macOS 27, you can now access your iPhone’s Control Center directly from your Mac using the Command-4 keyboard shortcut or through the View menu in the menu bar. Previously, iPhone Mirroring did not support access to Control Center at all.
DRM support
macOS 27 also adds support for DRM-protected video playback in iPhone Mirroring. In macOS Tahoe, attempting to watch protected content, such as videos from streaming services or rented movies, results in a black screen on your Mac. However, with the next major update, you will be able to view DRM-compatible content directly through the iPhone mirror window.
