The latest monthly Google Play Services update is rolling out, bringing the system to version 26.21. In the April 2026 Play Services update, Google introduced a more intuitive Google Wallet with the update, and this time around the changes are focused more on the Play Store itself. Google says these updates are available on a variety of devices, from Android phones and tablets to Android TV, Google TV, Chrome OS, Wear OS, and Android Auto. While the Google Play Services framework helps power several different systems on your device, most of the changes this time around are to the Google Play Store and Google Play Services themselves, many of them focused on mobile, Android Auto, and TV.
Most of this month’s updates are small pieces of a larger puzzle. However, these types of monthly updates are important to keep Android up to date and secure. This time around, the updates primarily focus on visibility in Google’s app store, although there is a significant change in privacy and security, as well as some back-end work that will help streamline the way developers support Google Maps and its various processes in third-party apps.
Android makes it easy to import and export passwords and access keys
According to the Google Play Services version 26.21 release notes, Android phones will now allow you to more easily import and export your passwords or passkeys between third-party password managers and Google Password Manager. This is made possible thanks to a new credential exchange standard introduced in this update, although Google has not shared any specific details about the standard. Google Password Manager has come a long way to become a useful tool for Android users, but some might still be concerned about the security of Google Password Manager. It’s also likely that people would prefer to use one of the best third-party password managers, and they will benefit from Google making it easier to move credentials in and out of its proprietary password manager.
Other changes brought with this update include a new user flow for pre-registering apps and installing them automatically on the Play Store. You will also now be able to receive notifications about all monthly Play Store challenges (including Loyalty Max challenges) via pop-up banners. Sale prices and discounts will also be easier to see and more visible on the Play Store, Google notes.
Google also released a new design for Play Store dialogs on Android Auto, phones and Android TV. Finally, the Google Play Store will now be able to locate the content of installed apps on the installed app store listing pages found in the Play Store. You will also be able to use Play Collections to find other similar content on the Google Play Store. This should make it easier to find apps similar to ones you already use.
