Clutch is an open-world driving game from the former creative director of Forza Horizon

Maverick Games, an independent studio founded and led by Mike Brown, has revealed its first game Clutch. Brown worked at Playground Games and served as creative director of Forza Horizon 5succeeding Ralph Fulton, and designer for Forza Horizon 4. Maverick describes Clutch as a “cinematic open-world action driving game” with a narrative storyline featuring both story-driven pro racetrack campaigns and underground racing and chasing matches.

Clutch revolves around siblings racing prodigies who join R1K, a competition that has served as a testing ground for top drivers over the past century. There is also an underground group called “Midnight Collective” with riders “who love to show off their style and the raw thrill of speed.” Apparently, the hero finds himself in trouble at some point and needs a fixer, which exposes R1K’s presumably dark underbelly.

The game offers players an in-depth customization system that goes beyond choosing colors, stickers, and replacement parts. Maverick says you can create a real one-of-a-kind car to use for missions and races that you can enter to get position and rewards.

“Maverick has assembled a dream team of car enthusiasts and driving fans with decades of experience creating open-world racing games,” said Mike Brown. “Our mission from day one is for Clutch to push the genre into a new era, innovate through new types of open-world sandbox gameplay, and take a generational leap on why we love driving games.”

The studio will reveal more about the game’s story, universe and actors behind its characters during the Summer Game Fest Showcase on June 5. Unfortunately, even though Maverick Games debuted the trailer in a YouTube live, it has yet to release the footage properly. Maverick will be released Clutch in spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
