As Samsung expands its latest firmware update to more smartphones (see the full list of all Samsung phones getting the One UI 8.5 update for more model-specific details), the company is also giving low-end and mid-range models access to the Camera Assistant app. If you’re unfamiliar, Camera Assistant offers more settings and customization options than the regular camera app, and in the past, the feature was typically reserved for Samsung’s Galaxy line. In total, 20 devices benefit from the application, including some Samsung tablets.
Smartphones benefiting from the app include many Samsung Galaxy devices, such as the Galaxy A34, A35, A36, and A37, as well as the Galaxy M34, M35, and M36. If you want to check out the feature for yourself, open the Camera app and find your settings. You should see a “Camera Assistant” option at the bottom. Samsung’s Camera Assistant provides users with additional controls beyond the stock camera app. Users can make further adjustments to their lens and zoom selections, including accessing different zoom shortcuts, and the app can even instruct their camera to select the best lens based on certain conditions. Users can also adjust the sensitivity and speed of the autofocus function, including for videos and photos.
Not all devices have access to all of Camera Assistant’s features; hardware limitations may prevent older devices from using more power-hungry features. For example, some devices may not be able to access items that require more powerful camera sensors or image processing. In addition to several Galaxy smartphones receiving the new app, it also extends to several tablet models. These include:

While access to additional camera settings can be a great way to bring out more of the photographer in you, it’s worth noting that One UI 8.5 also brings additional features from the Galaxy S26 to older devices. This includes some Galaxy devices getting call screening, a new photo assistant, and an audio eraser, among other features. The One UI 8.5 rollout began in Korea on May 6, 2026, and other regions began receiving the update on May 11.
