Emoji selection on Mac remains an area that could be improved with future versions of macOS. In the meantime, Mojito is a new free solution that significantly improves the emoji picker experience on Mac.
Mojito is a lightweight utility that brings simple emoji selection to all apps
Working with emoji on iPhone and iPad is easy because they are part of a dedicated keyboard and can be easily summoned simply by typing their description.
On Mac? It’s a different story since the Touch Bar was discontinued.
There’s the hard-to-remember Control+Option+Space keyboard shortcut, but did I mention it can be hard to remember? It’s best to press the Globe or fn key twice, but even that method feels slow and uneven.
This is where Mojito comes into play. This is a lightweight utility that sits in your Mac’s menu bar. Completely free, no upgrades and it works as advertised.
Similar to Slack and other apps, simply type the name of the emoji between two colons and it appears. Press Return and it inserts. It’s all keyboard-based, with no cursor selection, at least for now. Additionally, there are a handful of settings to customize how it works.
