Lenovo is well known as a reliable laptop brand because its laptops, especially the ThinkPad series, undergo rigorous military-grade durability testing. Lenovo products are built to last, and even their gaming laptops have a reputation for solid build quality. It’s a name that regularly tops the list when ranking major PC brands from worst to best. However, there are definitely other laptop brands that can give Lenovo a run for its money. These are underrated PC brands, not because they aren’t popular, but because many people may not realize they can compete directly with Lenovo.
When selecting other reliable laptop brands, we wanted to highlight options that can compete with both sides of Lenovo’s laptop business. We’ve chosen two brands that can compete with the Lenovo ThinkPad series as everyday productivity devices. We also picked two brands that can compete with the Lenovo Legion series of gaming laptops. Overall, these are four brands worth checking out if you want something other than Lenovo for your next big tech upgrade.
HP
HP’s EliteBook series laptops are designed to be business-class workstations for professionals on the go. When TechRadar reviewed the HP EliteBook X G2i, they praised it as being both reliable and versatile. It packs up to 64GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage in an ultra-thin form factor, not to mention Copilot+ capabilities powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor and Intel AI Boost NPU. And in TechRadar’s testing, the X G2i’s battery lasted long enough to “run through your workday and beyond.”
Considering the lifespan of Lenovo laptops, which can be up to 10 years or more in some marginal cases, it stands to reason that any competent competitor will need to have similar longevity. Well, the lifespan of an HP EliteBook is typically between five and seven years, which is a respectable range in itself. It’s the difference between a “standard” laptop, which often only lasts three to five years, and a high-end business laptop like the EliteBook, which can truly compete with Lenovo’s best.
Apple
Professionals love Apple’s MacBook product line because they can count on MacBooks to last a long time and perform high-end tasks. They are also known for their simple and straightforward software updates, which is a huge advantage if you manage an entire fleet of machines for your business. The MacBook Pro series is the high-end option, while a MacBook Air is a more general-purpose machine for school, office work, or creative pursuits. The MacBook Air 2026, in particular, stands out for its inclusion of Apple’s high-performance M5 chip in a relatively affordable package.
We directly compared the MacBook Air to the Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon They excel in different areas, and that’s exactly why they compete so fiercely in the productivity area.
Acer
Gaming laptops are one of those tech products you should never pay full price for, and that’s why Acer is an attractive Lenovo gaming competitor. The Acer Nitro laptop series is known for going on sale with generous discounts during seasonal promotions. When PCMag compiled its list of the best cheap gaming laptops for 2026, the publication named the Acer Nitro V 16 AI as “the best budget gaming laptop for competitive gamers.” If you can find it on sale at an even more affordable price, it will be well worth your consideration.
Compared to the Lenovo Legion LOQ 15, which is the brand’s latest entry-level gaming laptop, Acer’s budget models remain the more wallet-friendly option. In addition to this, Acer is known for its frequent software updates and reliable technical support. The Acer Nitro V 16 AI and Lenovo Legion LOQ 15 are both more powerful laptops than the Xbox Series X, so ultimately gamers migrating from the console experience can’t go wrong with either.
Razer
Razer is an underrated PC maker because many gamers may not realize how reliable its products can be. Razer competes with Lenovo as one of the laptop brands with the longest hardware support warranties. If you choose to pay for RazerCare Essential coverage, you’ll get a total of three years of warranty for your laptop, which includes battery replacement and no limit on the number of claims you can file. This is attractive because even though Razer laptops are built from durable aluminum that can last for many years, any gaming laptop, regardless of brand, will likely experience lithium-ion battery issues after two years.
If money is no object, the Razer Blade 16 2026 is one of the most powerful gaming laptops money can buy. The most premium configuration of this model comes with an RTX 5090 graphics card, a 2TB SSD, and 64GB of RAM. When PC Gamer reviewed the latest Razer Blade 16, they praised its chassis design, screen quality, and impressive portability despite the multitude of powerful components packed under the hood. PC Gamer also consistently measured lower gaming temperatures on the Razer Blade 16 than on a high-end Lenovo Legion equivalent. Power doesn’t always translate to reliability, but this measure helps the longevity of the Razer laptop.
