3 ways to customize LG TV webOS

While customization isn’t typically a strong suit of smart TVs, LG TVs offer surprisingly useful customization options to make your TV work the way you want it to. For one, you can program your LG TV remote for quick access to your favorite apps, TV inputs and settings. Older LG TV remotes with the colored buttons let you use the number keys 1 through 8 as shortcuts to an app or TV input. Meanwhile, the recent Magic Remote comes with a heart-shaped button that you can map to different settings, such as muting the TV, showing the Accessibility Shortcuts panel, and opening the Live TV interface.

Beyond the remote, there are also different ways to customize the webOS UI itself on your LG TV. Ready to use, this interface already seems clear and intuitive. But you are free to change the layout and modify the menus to further improve your TV experience. So below we will show you some customization options that you can try with the webOS interface of your LG TV.

As with many other smart TV brands, LG lets you customize your webOS home screen to better suit your needs. You can change several details here, but you’ll probably choose the apps list first. You can rearrange this list, hide apps you don’t want to see on your home screen, or uninstall apps you no longer need.

To rearrange your app list, choose an app on your home screen and press and hold the scroll wheel on your remote. When the Edit App List screen appears, select the app you want to move and drag it left or right. To hide certain apps from the Home screen list, hover over the app icon and click the eye icon that appears at the top. This can be useful for built-in LG apps that you don’t use but can’t uninstall. You can always re-add hidden apps from the same Edit App List screen. If you want to completely remove a third-party app from the system, go to the app and select the trash can icon. When prompted, choose Yes to be confirmed.

The cards list (the rectangular tiles above the apps list) can also be customized using the same process. Touch and hold a tile to go to the Edit Card List screen, then move the tiles to where you want or hide tiles that you don’t use often.

Another thing you can customize on the LG webOS home screen is the content list that appears under the Current Trends list. To do this, simply scroll to the bottom of the home screen and tap the pen icon. From there, you can then choose the content to move and drag it with your remote.

Your LG TV has sleep and standby modes that allow you to quickly access your TV after being away from it for a few minutes or hours. Sleep mode activates automatically when your TV becomes inactive for a specific amount of time, while sleep mode activates when you press the power button.

When your LG TV goes into standby mode, it may display advertisements or go black and display a white analog clock. On the other hand, with Sleep Mode (also called Always Ready), you might see an information screen featuring the weather and date, or potentially photo art, live wallpapers, or a collection of buttons to play relaxing sounds.

If you prefer to have your personal photos in both modes, follow these steps:

1. Enable Always Ready if you haven’t already:
   1. Hold it Settings button on your remote control.
   2. Click on General.
   3. Open Always ready.
   4. Enable Activate the function.
2. Launch LG+ Gallery from the home screen.
3. Click on Photos.
4. With your phone, scan the QR code.
5. In the LG ThinQ app, open the connected TV.
6. Scroll down to Always Ready.
7. Faucet Use my photos.
8. Download the images you want to use.

Your photos should now be accessible from the LG Gallery+ app on your TV. Simply choose the image you want and select Set as always ready Or Set as screen saver. To view your changes, you can press the power button once to activate Always Ready or wait for sleep mode to automatically activate. If the sleep mode wait time is too long, you can always change it from the settings. You will find the screen saver settings under General > System > Additional Settings.

LG’s webOS already simplifies the browsing experience with faster access to menus and settings. But to make these shortcuts work better for you, you can customize two additional features: your HDMI input name and the Quick Settings panel.

To rename your HDMI inputs on your LG TV, follow these steps:

1. Go to Welcome Center via the button on your remote control. If you are not familiar with the symbols of the LG TV remote, it is the button with a home icon inside a circle (press it once) or the button with the plug icon (long press it).
2. Click on the three points in the upper right corner.
3. Choose Edit entries.
4. Navigate to the icon next to the entry you want to rename.
5. Choose a new icon.
6. Select the field next to the new icon.
7. Delete the current name.
8. Type a new name.
9. Hit Enter.
10. Save your changes.

Now when you open the Inputs panel (by holding down the home icon with a circle or pressing the jack icon on your remote once), you should see the HDMI input with your preferred name. In the meantime, here’s how to customize your quick settings:

1. Press the speed button on your remote control.
2. In the Quick Settings panel that opens, go to pen icon.
3. To delete a thumbnail, click on it and select DELETE.
4. To move a tile, choose the tile, press Moveand drag it to the desired position.
5. To add more tiles, go to the plus icon and choose the tile you want to add to quick settings. You can then move it to where you want to pin it.
6. Save the changes by pressing the button back button on your remote control.

When you tap the gear icon again, your Quick Settings panel will now show your favorite settings.
